NEW ATLANTA DANCE COMPANY, ALA DANCE, PREMIERES DEBUT CONCERT THROUGH HEALING AND REFLECTION

WHAT: ALA Dance Presents Prefixed RE:

WHEN: July 16 & 17, 2021 @ 7:30pm | July 18, 2021 @ 2pm

WHO: ALA Dance featuring Atlanta Dance Collective & Dominique Kinsey

WHERE: The B Complex

1272 Murphy Ave SW, Atlanta, GA 30310, United States

July 16-18 at The B Complex, ALA Dance will be premiering their inaugural dance concert Prefixed RE:. With choreography and artistic direction by Atarius Armstrong, the small yet strong company of 6 will display a collection of works based on identity and resiliency. With an athletic and dynamic repertoire, ALA Dance has managed to combine acrobatics, modern, and contemporary dance to create an evening of works that embrace the importance of self, unification, and response. Inspired by recent events in Armstrong’s life, the works in the show present themselves as a response and growth to trauma -- ultimately resulting in a form of healing.

Prefixed RE: will feature standout duet 1221, which was selected and created for Fly on a Wall’s 2021 production of Excuse the Art -- an annual works-in-progress festival in partnership with The Windmill Arts Center, centered around the curation of innovative works. 1221 was inspired by a Tweet stating, “As Black people on December 21 our real DNA will be unlocked and the majority will be able to do things we thought were fiction.” Centered around trauma resilience within the Black community, the piece explores motifs of what it means to be superhuman, bearing the weight of the world, and defining where and with whom we place our trust.

Joining the new company for the weekend are guest artists Atlanta Dance Collective and Dominique Kinsey (Kennesaw ‘21, Kit Modus).

Founded in 2020 by Artistic Director Atarius Armstrong, ALA Dance is a multidisciplinary movement company composed of creatives across various mediums of movement modalities. We strive to create innovative works for the stage, film, and beyond. They have recently performed at Excuse the Art 2021, produced by Fly on a Wall, and Fall for Fall Dance Festival.

With a focus on developing and expanding community, ALA looks to collaborate with thought leaders and artists among a wide array of fields to create a unique, athletic repertoire. For more information about ALA Dance, visit https://ala.dance
